Second Marking Period Overview

Hello parents! As the second marking period is coming to an end, I am writing to tell you what we have been up to.

As we all move at different paces, we are learning a variety of topics and everyone is making huge improvements as the year goes on. We are already half way through the school year, hard to believe!

In math class, we are working on simple addition and subtraction facts. To practice this at home, xtramath is a great resource to use with your child's clever login. We are also working on identifying coins and their values which we can all now sing a catchy song to! Working on identifying numbers 0-30 and fractions are also a few things some of us are working on.

During Language Arts, we continue to work on our reading skills and fluency. This includes sounding out words using our knowledge of letter sounds, blends, and diagraphs as well as identifying sight words. I am sending home a sight word booklet that way you can practice these sight words with your child at home! We are also continuing to work on our comprehension after reading books. Any wh- questions you can ask your child while reading with them at home can help with this tremendously! Some of us are also working on writing about what we read about in a story, rhyming words,  or identifying beginning, middle, and end sounds.

Science and Social Studies has consisted of identifying the difference between living and nonliving things, as well as what living things need to survive. Some of us are also learning about the symbols of America and where we live.

We have also been working on how to have nice conversations with our peers and how to play nicely.

I have sent home an email about parent teacher conferences if you would like to sign up for one. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! It is always a pleasure to have your child in class.
